The personal protective equipment (PPE) includes a suitable safety helmet. For tree climbers, it is particularly important that the climbing helmet has side impact protection, or lateral shock absorption. This is especially important in the case of swinging falls. This lateral shock absorption is prescribed in EN 12492 and EN 14052, but not in EN 397.
